Battle of Hoengsong Feb.11-13, 1951- Looking for anyone who may have known PFC Harry G Hayes, 15 ART BN 2 INF DIV reported as KIA on 2/13/51. His remains(?) were returned to his hometown for burial in the 70';s, I believe, but his family doubts they were Harry';s remains. I grew up with Harry and went to school with him. I believe he was only around 17 years old when he was killed. I';m trying to find more info for the family about how Harry served and died.
God Bless all of you who served in The Forgotten War.
Thank You.

My brother Everette Chappell, was in the 15th.Field Art.Bn.(105MM.)2nd.Inf.Div.was in the battle at Massacre Valley. Was reported MIA Feb.13,1951.He is still listed as MIA.A friend that was with Everette, says he was captured with him. They were on a march to a prison camp. His friend says they talked with each other from day to day.One morning Everette didn';t appear for the march. The war department has never confirmed this, but his friend remembers this vividly. It is possible that Everette never reached camp. The 38th.Inf.Regt.lost a lot of men,as well as 503 Field Art.If anyone knew Everette, please contact me.He was from N.C. My brother';s best friend, Alford Jeffrey, will killed at Massacre Valley (Hoensong). There were over 600 killed, 2 survived. Apparently Alford had been out scouting and saw nothing; came back to the trucks; men sleeping. Trucks were going up an incline of a narrow road; the last truck in the convoy was hit first. It was in the way, plus the narrow road, when the trucks tried to turn around.
This was in February, 1951. Alford was reported MIA on Feb. 13. His dogtags were found 100 feet from his body.
He joined the Army because my brother had joined. He got into Able Company, while my brother got into Dog Company. My brother Gene D. Tomkins served his year in Korea, too, but he came home.
Alford Jeffrey was 19 when killed. Barely out of basic training when sent over to Korea. He was in heavy fighting in Winter, 1950. Escaped from North Korea - probably Chosin.

I believe that the 987th FA took a beating in April 1951 with the beginning of the Chinese spring offensive, they lost men and howitzers (which were later recovered by the 213th FA) Don';t know if that helps...
